Want a yoga high that leaves you in a state of incomparable bliss and joy?

The usual route is spending years and years practicing or trekking to India in hopes of finding the ultimate experience. Neither of these methods by themselves gives any guarantee of reaching your goal. You can quickly bypass years of effort with these hacks.

Go beyond the normal feel-good state of a standard yoga practice.

These hacks are meant to take your yoga practice to a new level. I won’t kid you. They are easier said than done. But if you put your mind to it, you can do it.

Having support and encouragement from someone who has mastered these hacks is invaluable. But you don’t need to wait to find someone to get started.

Here are five hacks for a superior yoga high that will help take your yoga practice to the next level:

1. Stay in the present moment

You have probably heard this one, but it can’t be over stressed. We often start out “in the present” but soon our mind is busy making plans for lunch, ruminating about the unkind words someone spoke to us three nights ago or daydreaming about a trip to Awesomeness Fest. Your yoga becomes more like exercise when this happens.

When you notice your mind wandering, gently bring it back to the present moment and what you are practicing. It will take some time to master this, but it will be easier the more you practice mindfulness.

2. Play high vibrational music

Play music that takes you beyond “uplifting” or “energizing.” Music composed and played by people who have achieved higher consciousness is a good place to start.

For example, the music composed by Swami Kriyananda, modern yoga master, Native American flute music or the chanting of Gregorian Monks. Unlike other music that may temporarily lift your spirits or get your juices flowing, this type of music transcends the mundane and helps to get your brain’s waves on a higher octave.

3. Focus on your breath and/or an affirmation

Focus on your breath or repeating an affirmation or mantra while practicing helps in two ways. It can help you to stay in the present moment.

They are also meditative practices that help bring the attention to the areas of the brain that help us to feel more connection, more focus and stimulates the “feel-good” hormones in our brain. Read here to learn more about profoundly simple but effective meditation mantras.

4. Bring your energy inward and upward

We need to be “in our bodies” to help us ground and be stable as we feel our feet connected to the earth or feel the expansion of our energy from the center of our chest out to our fingertips as we spread our arms.

But once we have the technique of the pose and our consciousness established in our body, we can go deeper in our practice by tuning into the more subtle energy. We can feel or imagine that we are bringing our bodily energy into the center of our limbs and from there into the center of our body — the inward movement.

Then feel or imagine that we are bringing that energy up and into the brain and forward to the point between the eyebrows — the upward movement. This concentrates your energy at the prefrontal lobes of your brain, where you can experience a superior yoga high. 5. Focus at the point between the eyebrows

The great yoga master and avatar, Paramhansa Yogananda was once asked, If you don’t have the higher kriya meditation techniques, known as the airplane route to samadhi bliss, what is the next fastest technique to use?

He replied, Keep your attention at the point between the eyebrows at all times.

This is a simple technique but can be hard to remember! If you are successful you will be amazed at the results.

To help you get started, keep your attention at the point between the eyebrows during your yoga and meditation practice. Don’t cross your eyes or furrow your eyebrows. Just bring a calm simple focus to this point bringing energy to the prefrontal lobes of your brain.

These hacks are simple to explain, as most hacks are.

However, it takes diligence and practice to make them work. Put in the effort and you won’t regret it. Trust me, it will give you an incomparable yoga high!
